February 2008
Dear Friends of KHCS,
Had your fill of election year politics yet? Just think! We have nine
more months to go – assuming it is decided in November and not in
January as with our 2000 election. And remember to prepare yourself for
the fact that even in some candidates’ concession speech anytime between
now and late at night on this November 4th, they will begin to rally
their supporters for 2012.
Any good citizen should be involved by listening, deciding and then
voting in the political process. But what about a good
Christian-citizen? You know – one that is in the world but not of it!
Christ was asked one day about whether our loyalty should be to civil
authority (Caesar) or to spiritual authority (God)? Jesus responded with
a both / and answer – “Then render to Caesar the things that are
Caesar’s and to God the things that are God.”
Christians should clearly be involved in the political process. We
should have no grand vision of being able to legislate righteousness but
we need also to remember as salt of the earth that this old rank,
unregenerate world needs a touch of the salt of the earth to make it
palatable.
We suggest three ideas:
1) Be informed! Never has there been a year when there have been so many
forums, debates and newsreels of the candidates and so early in the
campaign. Each candidate has expressed him or herself on the issues.
Some have supported all sides of issues, others one side continually and
still others one side only to change their support to the other side.
Because political positions are so shifting, an educated voter has to
vote for the person and not the current political position of the
candidate. Great people make great leaders – not great politicians.
2) Be involved! You have just one vote! Then use it. If you get
disenchanted with the long, drawn-out process or disinterested because
no candidate agrees with you on every single issue and you, therefore,
decide to stay on the sidelines then you have yielded your voice to
those who disagree with you.
Make sure now you are registered to vote and make sure you vote. If you
might be out of town on November 4th plan to vote absentee.
3) Be in prayer! Not just now, but on a continual basis. The scriptures
teach we are to pray for our leaders – period! Not just the ones we like
or the ones who earned our support and our vote. We are told the king’s
heart is in the hand of the Lord. You might not ever get a private
audience with the President but you can boldly approach the throne of
the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He holds a higher rank, higher
authority and higher power than any elected official ever.
At KHCS, whether you are in Christmas season, political season, baseball
season, or any season - Jesus is the reason for all our seasons – 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 (or 366) days a year! We exist through
your generous gifts and support to proclaim the message of the Life,
Works, Words, Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord
and Savior.
If you have not been a regular monthly supporter of this ministry,
please consider doing so. Our only source of income is from people who
are being blessed by this ministry. This past year has been very
difficult for us in that we have had to borrow money to take care of our
obligations.
We can accept donations with Visa and Master Card. If this could be an
option for you, please give us a call here at the station. The number is
864-9620. Your prayerful consideration would be appreciated. Remember,
this is YOUR station. Thank you.
In His Joy,

Dan Pike
