January 2005
Dear friend of KHCS,
Well, 2004 was quite a year! And
thanks to the generous support of our Ministry Partners, we are
beginning our thirteenth year of broadcasting in the Coachella Valley!
Our thanks also go out to those of you
who participated in our 2005 Program Survey. We have now completed
processing the survey results, and once again Focus on the Family
takes the top honors with 80 percent of our survey respondents naming it
as one of their favorite programs. In second place is Insight for
Living with Chuck Swindoll, followed by Money Matters, Breakpoint
and Family News in Focus, in that order.
In fact, all of our news and
information features are among your top ten favorite programs. This
indicates that Joy 92 listeners have a desire to be kept
aware of what is happening in the world.
It is interesting to note that 53
percent of our survey respondents indicated that they enjoy our music
most of the time, and 24 percent all of the time. Also, the largest
percentage of our listeners have been listening to Christian music for
10 to 20 years.
Thanks to your comments and survey
responses, we are making some changes in our programming lineup for the
year 2005. Mainly, these changes will affect weekends only.
The median age of our survey
respondents is 53.3 years, which is higher than the 43.1 years for the
Coachella Valley as a whole. To reach listeners in their 30’s and 40’s,
we will begin airing current pop and hip-hop music on “The Sound of
Light,” Saturdays from 4 to 7 p.m. as of January 1.
Don Malley, host of the long-running program, Conference Pulpit,
is retiring and will no longer be producing that program. Effective
January 2, Let My People Think with Dr. Ravi Zacharias will move to
9:00 a.m. on Sundays and will be followed at 9:30 a.m. by Dennis Rainey
and Bob Lepine with FamilyLife Weekend.
D. James Kennedy’s Truths That
Transform Weekend will be heard at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays, then The
Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans at 10:30.
Replacing Dr. Evans in the noon slot is
a new feature designed to help family relationships
─ HomeWord,
with marriage and family expert Jim Burns.
Due to declining interest, the Saturday
evening releases of Adventures in Odyssey and Left Behind
will no longer be heard.
On Saturdays, Breakpoint This Week
and Jay Sekulow Weekend will exchange time slots, with Chuck Colson
now at 2:30 p.m. and Jay Sekulow at 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
One further note
─ we found that
47 percent of our survey respondents “just happened” to find KHCS
while they were tuning around the dial. Only 22 percent heard about our
ministry through a friend or relative. I would like to encourage you to
let others know about our ministry.
Will you do your part? I hope
that you benefit from listening to our Christ-honoring programming. The
ministry of Joy 92-FM can continue our ministry here in the
desert only because listeners just like you pray for us, let others know
about us, and share in our financial support.
I hope you will share our vision of
reaching the desert for Christ. Your
tax-deductible contributions are vitally needed in 2005 so that we may
continue bringing you Information and Inspiration, 24 hours a day. Please
pray about your commitment to this ministry in this new year. Remember,
we aren’t asking you to make a pledge. Instead, please make a decision
that the ministry of KHCS is important to you. Important
enough to help support.
We look forward to hearing from you
soon.
In His
joy!
