Dear Friends of KHCS,

Most of us growing up were told by our parents that if we could not say anything nice we should say nothing at all. This unwritten law of teachers and parents works well for keeping peace on the playground but it makes for a lousy world.

Pundits of popular philosophy in the past decade have taken this “say only what is nice” law to a whole new level. Political correctness rules our society.

True Christians have a real dilemma! If we speak up we risk being perceived as being out of touch our society. If we remain silent our silence is seen as passive consent. When faced with a similar first century confrontation the apostles clearly decided – we ought to obey God rather than men.

Last month same-sex “marriages” were made legal and available in California. Quite frankly, this “union” does not fit the Webster Dictionary definition of marriage – “to join a man and a woman as husband and wife.”

Was the city of San Francisco the lone perpetrator of perversion? Hardly! According to the Associated Press, San Diego County, typically a Republican stronghold added four walk-up windows and assigned 78 employees to issue marriage licenses, up from the usual 19. San Diego County issued 230 licenses on the first “legal” Tuesday, breaking its previous single-day record of 176 on Valentine’s Day 2005.

Was it just Los Angeles, where anything goes? Not really. On Tuesday, June 24th, the Orange County Register reported, under the headline “Demand For Same-sex Marriage Licenses Continues,” the county had issued 554 in the first four days of the legalization of gay unions.

Lest we think this is a small group of fringe people who support this “right” to “marry” within the same sex, a recent Field Poll showed Californians favoring gays the right to marry 51 percent to 42 percent. It was the first time in 30 years of California polling the scales have tipped in that direction.

Take a look at the “narrow-mindedness” demonstrated by the apostle Paul on this subject as he wrote in Romans 1:24-28 and again in verse 32 –

24 - Therefore, God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

25 - For they exchanged the Truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 - For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural.

27 - and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another; men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 - And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.

32 - And although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Poor Apostle Paul. If he were alive today he would be a popular interview on the evening news. He would be world renowned as the local, narrow-minded, see-through-a-key-hole-with-both-eyes, prejudiced spiritual bigot.

The Scriptures teach us we are to know the Truth and the Truth will set us free. It is impossible to live out this verse if we are silent or even run from the Truth on this issue.

Through the efforts of many Christian organizations, churches and individuals, over 1.1 million signatures have qualified this matter for the November ballot. This will be another reason for us as Christians to inform others about this issue and encourage them to vote. This is going to be a very heated battle! Even our own Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger favors same-sex marriage because of the amount of money it will bring into the State of California.
