November 2005
Dear friend of
KHCS,
It’s a crazy world!
Cathedral City changed their logo and
slogan to “The Spirit of the Desert.” Now some people are complaining
that this is “an endorsement of religion”!
Now, you don’t look like you’re old
enough to remember, but I recall when religion, and especially
Christianity, was something to be encouraged instead of suppressed!
Whatever happened to “tolerance”?
And with the recent Supreme Court
decision on Eminent Domain, now no church is safe from being evicted
from their property! Before, the doctrine of Eminent Domain could only
be invoked “for the public good,” for example widening a street (such as
Jefferson Street in La Quinta) or putting in a new freeway.
Now, if a city government decides that
“the public good” means increasing their business tax revenues by
tearing down your church and putting in a Wal-Mart, that’s what will
happen!
Also, Christian radio, as well as
conservative talk shows, are in the cross-hairs of some politicians who
want the FCC to revert to the old “Fairness Doctrine.” While this may
sound good on the surface, if
KHCS should happen to
broadcast a program against abortion or “gay” marriage, we could be
forced to air another program that is for these things!
Joy-92 FM is now also
struggling to move ahead with new programming to meet the desires that
listeners have expressed from our recent surveys. But now this is
somewhat problematical as contributions to this listener-supported
ministry are still 20 percent below 2004.
However, by faith we intend to
continue bringing Information and Inspiration to the Coachella Valley in
2006. Enclosed is our latest survey to determine which programs on
KHCS
are the most popular. This is our way of making sure that we
are meeting the needs of our listeners.
KHCS
is a non-commercial, listener-supported ministry, so we are forbidden by
law from selling airtime for any purpose. We have no contractual
agreements with any of the program producers. We don’t air programs
because we are paid to, so we can terminate them at any time.
Now, I may have some programs that I
prefer, but we are not here to play my favorites. As a servant ministry
to the Coachella Valley and the desert area, our goal is to best
minister to the most listeners. Therefore, any program that does not
receive a reasonable amount of listener interest is subject to
replacement. Your participation in this survey will help ensure that
your favorite programs will remain on the air.
KHCS
is not supported by the sale of air time, nor do we have a foundation or
denomination that provides support. Sometimes I have been asked, “Why
don’t you just have commercials?” Well, as I mentioned above, we are a
non-commercial station and cannot do that. Also, just because a station
is commercial does not guarantee that they will be profitable.
That’s why your tax-deductible
contributions are so important. There is no other way that
Joy 92-FM can continue to bring you Information and
Inspiration, 24 hours a day!
There’s something else you can do to
help the ministry of
KHCS.
It’s practical. It’s easy. And it might even be fun! Enclosed are a
few Invitation to Listen cards that will help you invite your friends
and neighbors to tune in to
KHCS
at 91.7 FM. If everyone receiving this letter will encourage
just three people to tune in, we could have up to four times as many
listeners!
Last but not least, pray for the
ministry of
KHCS!
Pray that many others will catch the vision for the support of your
local Christian radio station. If you are not yet a Ministry Partner,
ask the Lord how you might be able to help support this ministry on a
monthly basis. You could make the difference!
In His
joy!
