September 2005
Dear friend of KHCS,
“Our message makes all the
difference.” You’ve probably heard our slogan in recent months. Our
message ─ the
Gospel of Jesus Christ
─ sets Joy 92-FM apart from most radio stations you
can hear in the Coachella Valley. That’s truly a difference!
The message of the Gospel also makes a
difference in the lives of those who hear and believe. It’s a
life-transforming difference in how people live.
We are happy to be a part of spreading
this life-changing message to our listeners in the Coachella Valley and
surrounding areas. Our ongoing surveys have shown that the great
majority of our listeners are happy with our programming. Over 60
percent never listen to any other station!
But, one listener concern we hear is
that our music lacks variety. Now, that doesn’t mean we should play
everything ─
pop, rap, Southern gospel and choirs. But, there is more music
available that fits our general style that we could add to our “mix” so
that each song doesn’t come up quite so often.
The problem is that, unlike the “good
old days” when record companies sent stations free albums, we now have
to pay full retail price
─ just like you
do. And the time involved in auditioning the songs, and determining
when and how often to play them, brings the cost per CD to nearly $50!
Your generous contributions to the
listener-supported ministry of KHCS will help us to add the 500
or so new CD’s to our library what we need to fulfill this improvement
to our programming.
That means we will need an extra
$25,000 to upgrade our music library. And we hope to be able to do
this by October.
Your tax-deductible contribution this
month will be a huge blessing to us as we move ahead to improve our
service to you.
Also, we are eager to begin offering
you interviews with local pastors and other Christian leaders, and
coverage of local community issues. This is something that nearly 48
percent of the respondents to our recent survey asked for. We had
considered just doing this as a half-hour weekend show, but found that
not that many people would be able to listen to it. Thus, we would like
to provide this new programming from 6:00 to 8:00 each morning, Monday
through Friday.
Now, you know that your pastor doesn’t
just step up to the pulpit each Sunday and ad-lib a sermon. Similarly,
whoever we have doing this new program will need to spend approximately
two hours in preparation for every hour on the air. And this is not a
position for an inexperienced volunteer.
We will need to provide an appropriate
salary for this announcer-producer. And that means we will need
additional, ongoing listener contributions.
You may not know that only a very
small number of our listeners ever contribute to the listener-supported
ministry of KHCS.
Indeed, only about one third of the
readers of this letter have contributed to the support of this ministry
in 2005. If you have not joined in the support of KHCS, please
prayerfully consider how you might become a Ministry Partner.
Your tax-deductible contribution of
$100 each month, or even $50 or $25, when multiplied by the number of
others who give, will go far in helping us provide you with the best
possible programming to keep you informed and encouraged in the
Christian faith.
Please send
your best possible gift at this time, as it is urgently neededIn His
joy!

General Manager
P.S. This year’s Listener Survey showed a high
interest by our listeners in a program featuring interviews of local
pastors, artists and personalities. We have people available to produce
this program, but we only lack the funds with which to pay them. Your
contributions will help make this possible. Please pray and contribute
to meet this vital need.
As more people move from paying bills by check to
other forms of payment, we have had requests from listeners to make
contributions by credit card. We hope to have this service available
shortly. Stay tuned for details!
